Purpose of Role

Reporting to the Sr. Vice President of Development and Operations, the Acquisitions and Development Analyst will support the team in all phases of acquisition and development, including market research, sourcing, underwriting, design and approvals, and project capitalization. The focus will be on corporate financial analysis and deal-level financial modelling for multifamily and mixed-use projects in the Washington, DC metro area and other select national markets.

 

Responsibilities

  • Create and manage financial models to underwrite potential acquisitions and current development projects
  • Perform financial modeling and spreadsheet analysis for complex real estate transactions in Excel
  • Conduct market research, analyze opportunities, and make recommendations for possible acquisitions
  • Follow and track market and finance metrics that underpin underwriting assumptions and model inputs
  • Support acquisition and development teams in: site identification, zoning interpretation, concept development management, financial and general due diligence coordination
  • Create presentations for investment and development committee review and evaluation
  • Assisting in establishing annual property budgets
  • Assisting in job cost accounting oversight

 

Requirements

  • Previous experience working for institutional grade commercial real estate company
  • Bachelor's degree (Master's degree a plus) in real estate, accounting/finance, or business
  • 3+ years of real estate transactional, capital markets, or real estate investment banking experience
  • Experience underwriting multifamily assets
  • Strong financial analysis capability in order to analyze prospective new deals and accurately present returns based on potentially complicated deal structures
  • Expertise with Microsoft Excel
  • Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines
  • Self-starter, ability to think independently and anticipate next steps, and ownership mentality
  • Commitment to work in an entrepreneurial and collaborative environment
  • Ability to travel up to 20% of the time
