Payroll Manager - CoStar - Washington, DC

The Payroll Manager interacts with the entire organization, including global offices, leading the full life cycle payroll process for more than 4,500 employees within the US and Canada.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manage the bi-weekly payroll process for 4,500 employees in the US and Canada, ensuring tasks are completed accurately and timely
  • Oversee the payroll input process to include building and uploading files along with manual inputs into the Workday HCM and Payroll system
  • Partner with the Human Resources, Benefits, Stock teams on payroll impacting transactions such as leave of absences, retro benefit premium deductions, 401k loans, ESPP elections, etc.
  • Complete post processing tasks such as reconciliations for taxes and general ledger entries
  • Process off cycle payrolls as needed
  • Support onboarding activities for acquisitions to include training for ESS/MSS payroll actions (e.g., withholding elections, direct deposit) and time entry
  • Respond to audit requests from internal, external and SOX auditors
  • Lead projects such as ongoing process improvements and new feature adoption in Workday
  • Maintain process maps and documentation; update as processes evolve
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and cross train members of the payroll team on specialized tasks such as stock awards/option exercises, SEC filings, sales commission payments, etc.
  • Lead quarterly and year end activities such as tax filings, reconciliations, and W-2 generation
  • Provide excellent customer service to CoStar employees, responding to payroll related questions
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of employee records including compensation details and personal information
  • Promote and encourage a collaborative working environment
  • Perform other duties as assigned


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 5 to 8+ years of hands-on payroll processing experience for a publicly traded company
  • Experience using HRIS/HCM platforms such as Workday and ADP
  • Experience in a multistate environment
  • Experience processing payroll for employees living and working in Canada
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including Excel (data analysis, vlookups, pivot tables)
  • Ability to work onsite in the DC office full-time/five days per week


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
  • Experience processing stock programs such as awards, grants, options and an ESPP
  • Demonstrated knowledge of SOX through experience working for a publicly traded company
  • Experience working in environments where there have been company acquisitions
  • CPP or similar certification
