Reporting to the Chief of Staff and Co-Managing Partners, the Director of Accounting will be responsible for the smooth and efficient functioning of the Accounting / Finance functions and will manage the Company's ongoing compliance, budget / actual and internal management reporting functions.

We are seeking a dynamic candidate who is a self-thinker and motivator. This candidate should demonstrate leadership qualities and solid accounting experience. Additionally, this person must be able to work under specific timelines and be able to delegate and distribute work throughout the accounting department. Ideally, we are looking for someone that has experience in the construction industry and with multi-family apartment financials and investment experience to support the Company's growth objectives.

I. Job Responsibilities

  • Assist in formulating the company's future direction and supporting tactical initiatives
  • Lead, support and manage the accounting team while driving efficiency
  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate accounting standards and regulatory requirements
  • Coordinate all audit/review/tax preparation activity
  • Oversee and own the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes including detailed analysis and reconciliation of all general ledger accounts and preparation of financial statements
  • Deliver timely and accurate results reporting to Management
  • Lead relationships with external auditors, accounting/tax advisors, and internal controls
  • Provide direction for the annual budgeting and planning process
  • Work on monthly forecasting against budget including cash flow projections
  • Coordinate banking relations and maintenance of investments
  • Interact with Senior Executives and the extended leadership team regarding financial matters as needed

II. Accounting and Controls:

  • Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
  • Manage the accounting department

III. Financial Information:

  • Issue timely and complete financial statements of the applicable period end
  • Report monthly financial results to the company Chief of Staff and Co-Managing Partners
  • Accountable for the accurate and timely interpretation of GAAP accounting standards

IV. Risk Management:

  • Understand and mitigate key elements of the company's risk profile
  • Monitor legal issues affecting the industry and the company
  • Provide assistance in the maintenance of appropriate liability insurance coverage
  • Ensure the company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure that record keeping meets the requirements of partnership agreements, auditors and agencies
  • Report risk issues to the Chief of Staff and Co-Managing Partners
  • Maintain relations with external auditors and investigate their findings and assist in the implementation of recommendations

V. Funding:

  • Assist in the short-term investing of working capital funds
  • Assist in the Investment of escrowed reserve funds

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Public accounting experience with a CPA designation and/or MBA is preferred
  • Strong ERP systems experience
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent knowledge in assessing, developing, and implementing internal controls
  • Proven experience building, developing, mentoring, and inspiring a high performing professional accounting team
  • Proficiency with construction and real property financial software such as Yardi Voyager
  • Understanding of US GAAP
  • Preference will be given to those with recent experience in the construction industry and real estate property management

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Accounting or Finance.

Years of Experience:

10+ Years of progressively responsible experience for a major company or division of a large

corporation.
