The Viera Company, the master developer of the Viera Development of Regional Impact and a wholly owned land development subsidiary of A. Duda & Sons, Inc., a diversified land company, is seeking an experienced VP of Land Development.  The mission of The Viera Company is to create vibrant, livable communities that are built with faith, integrity and thoughtful stewardship of the land.  The Viera Company is committed to achieving the vision of a vibrant community where people live, work and play.  This is being accomplished by master planning and developing a balanced mix of residential areas, commercial spaces and community venues in the heart of Brevard County.

The responsibilities of the VP of Land Development include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Prepare and manage construction schedules and budgets for land development engineering activities in collaboration with the Development Capital Planning/Financial Analyst and oversee preparation of annual updates to development spending in the 5-Year Capital/Profit Plan.
  • Lead coordination with civil engineering consultants and contractors on land development projects from inception through permitting and construction – this includes overseeing the review process for engineering plans and subdivision plats.
  • Prepare earthwork calculations and initial design analyses (including drainage and utilities) for land development projects.
  • Prepare bid documents and oversee bidding process coordinating with engineering consultant and contractors while taking the lead role in reviewing bids and proposals; provide written award recommendations with comparison of bids to established budgets.
  • Direct the efforts of land use planners, engineers (civil, geotechnical, transportation, etc.), surveyors, architects, landscape architects, biologists, and other third party consultants necessary to successfully execute land development and engineering projects.
  • Communicate directly with Brevard County, St. Johns River Water Management District, other government agencies and utility companies relative to construction and engineering projects.
  • Coordinate with in-house management, legal, sales, homebuilding functions, the Cocoa Ranch, and 3rd party developers, as applicable, relative to permitting and development engineering approvals while mentoring and developing direct reports.

A Master’s Degree and a PE license (minimum of an EIT certification) are preferred, with previous professional experience in design engineering and land development for large scale mixed use projects. In addition, the following skills are required:

Degree in Civil/Design Engineering and/or Engineering Management. 10 years or more in management of design engineering and land development activities for large scale mixed use projects. Professionalism and discretion are of the utmost importance. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently as well as with a team, follow direction, have a good eye for detail, and be receptive to learning new procedures.
