Based in Stamford, Connecticut, CleanFund Commercial PACE Capital, Inc. (‘CleanFund’) is the leading provider of commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy (“CPACE”) financing for energy efficiency, water conservation, renewable energy and resiliency improvements for commercial properties, including multifamily, hospitality, industrial, retail and other nonresidential properties.

CleanFund is committed to providing straightforward and affordable capital for improvements that make commercial buildings cleaner, safer, and more efficient. CleanFund’s mission is to make CPACE a mainstream solution for commercial property owners to adopt energy, water, and other improvements that drive beneficial environmental impacts as well as reduced operating expenses and higher property valuations. CleanFund has significant expertise in closing complex commercial real estate financings and CPACE policy which resulted in closing the $54.7 million financing for the new Hyatt Regency Hotel at the Salt Lake City Convention Center which was the industry’s largest CPACE financing at the time of closing.

 

Responsibilities and Duties

 

CleanFund is seeking to identify a Director/Managing Director level candidate for its Business Development team who will be responsible for growing the platform’s sales within their particular territory. The successful candidate will play a key role in meeting and/or exceeding the overall sales goals for the organization through client business development activity. He/she will report into the CEO, Lain Gutierrez.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leverage existing relationships and build new relationships with commercial real estate owners/operators/developers resulting in the closing of CPACE financings.
  • Serve as a partner and liaison to the underwriting, portfolio management, and finance teams, ensuring well-coordinated strategic development and execution.
  • Noticeably extend the Company’s perceived and actual leadership position in the CPACE financing industry.
  • Maintain a current market outlook and bring an industry presence across the commercial real estate sector. Participate in key associations and represent the firm at industry related speaking events.
  • Cultivate a culture of teamwork, agility, open communication, integrity and a customer-centric orientation that values innovation and measurable performance across all areas.

 

 


 

Qualifications and Skills

 

The Director/MD, Business Development will have a minimum of 8 to 10 years of commercial real estate finance experience. The successful candidate should ideally come from a CPACE capital provider, commercial real estate brokerage firm, or commercial real estate bank lender or debt fund. He/she must have demonstrated an ability to originate and close commercial real estate loans and CPACE financings (if applicable), possessing a proven track record of driving sales activity.

Qualifications include:

  • Recognized business developer with a reputation for building relationships and successfully closing transactions.
  • Proven track record of sourcing, structuring, and executing real estate financings. Strong real estate transaction and negotiation skills.
  • Sophisticated understanding of commercial real estate finance, including the structuring and pricing of loans, and use of leverage as it applies to loans and fund structures, rigorous analytics and credit skills. Knowledge of national mortgage and asset-backed markets is important.
  • Strong commercial acumen, sound credit and underwriting judgment and creativity in developing financing strategies and deal structures. Convey credibility both inside the firm and to the greater real estate market.
  • Exceptional relationship and management skills; able to build strong partnerships. Possesses strong relationships with the brokerage community and with other real estate owners, developers and operators.
  • Ability to be successful within a highly entrepreneurial, growing platform. Collaborative with the highest level of integrity.
  • Excellent prioritization skills to ensure efficiency and timeliness of getting deals completed. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple critical initiatives simultaneously.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. A practice of sharing information and ensuring that management and staff are kept informed.
  • Bachelor’s degree required: MBA or master’s degree a plus.
