Manager of Corporate Accounting

 

WashREIT is a publicly traded company transitioning from a diversified REIT into a pure multifamily REIT and expanding from the DC metropolitan area into Southeastern markets.   We’re growing for sure!

Accounting is fun at WashREIT, and we are seeking a confident, experienced Manager of Corporate Accounting to join our team and help us grow.  This individual has primary responsibility for the corporate accounting functions, including share-based compensation accounting, compliance, and supervision of the accounts payable function.

You are a good fit if you have strong technical accounting skills, have strategic analysis skills, a CPA designation, are comfortable in an environment that is undergoing change and want to be a part of it, all while keeping a good sense of humor.

In this role, you will be working a flexible 3/2 (office/remote) hybrid schedule.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Corporate Accounting Functions

  • Oversee accurate recording of journal entries, preparation of variance analyses and compliance with monthly/quarterly close and reporting deadlines.
  • Review balance sheet and bank reconciliations, perform corporate-level review of income statement and balance sheets to ensure all transactions reported accurately for reporting period.
  • Participate in preparation of annual G&A budget and quarterly re-forecast process.
  • Review and coordinate debt accounting entries, ensuring compliance with GAAP.
  • Supervise the Senior Corporate Accountant.

Oversight of Accounting for Shared-Based Compensation Plan

  • Review and ensure accuracy of the calculation of share-based compensation expense.
  • Oversee compliance with SEC and other reporting requirements, including Form 4’s and Trustee compensation.
  • Manage relationship with third-party specialists.

Management of Accounts Payable

  • Plan, organize and manage operations and activities for accounts payable function.
  • Develop and report on accounts payable monthly and annual metrics.
  • Lead accounts payable component of software transition and implementation.
  • Oversee annual 1099 reporting process.
  • Manage Accounts Payable Specialist.

Additional duties include providing leadership expertise, project management, process design and team coordination for various business initiatives and projects.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • BS/BA degree in accounting and CPA designation
  • Public accounting experience strongly desired
  • Thorough understanding of US GAAP reporting requirements
  • Demonstrated experience managing a team in an accounting environment
  • Advanced proficiency on MS Office applications and enterprise accounting software
  • Ability to thrive in an organization undergoing substantial change
