NYL REI is seeking a Senior Associate to join its Committee Reporting, Internal Compliance and Operations (RICO) team in a dynamic role that interacts with the REI Senior Leadership team, in-house counsel, NYL Investors’ Compliance and several New York Life Corporate areas. It is a great opportunity to join a full-service real estate shop to handle internal compliance, investment committee and operational responsibilities.

 

The position will report to the Head of the RICO Division.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Serve as REI’s liaison to the Corporate Compliance, Risk Management, Audit and Communications Departments, which requires working closely with the REI Senior Leadership team, Business Area Heads and in-house counsel.
  • Understand and interpret the General Authorizations of the Investment Committee of New York Life and its subsidiaries and REI’s Sub-Delegation documents,
  • Recommend and respond to inquiries regarding REI’s governance documents, which are comprised of Delegations of Authority, Investment Committee Charters, as well as various policies and procedures, such as investment and expense allocations and OFAC, and
  • Assist with drafting updates to REI’s governance documents.
  • Support RICO’s Investment Committee and Reporting responsibilities, including:
  • Review Committee Briefs and Memos, discuss any questions with RICO Division Head and/or the Production Officer presenting the transaction, ensure consistency in the form and quality of the Committee documentation across the organization, and participate in Committee meetings,
  • Oversee the preparation of and review the Mortgage Loan and Real Estate Equity Commitment pages for the NYL Investment Committee package, together with the Limited Partnership report and Transactions of Note, if applicable, as well as coordinate Senior Management review and submit REI materials to the Corporate Financial Department,
  • Oversee the preparation of industry benchmarking reports, as well as investment reports for the Chief Investment Officer, and
  • Organize the Committee Learning Forum for REI Associates.
  • Collaborate with RICO Division Head and colleagues across the organization in fulfilling REI’s Corporate obligations related to company standards, policies and procedures in order to implement same, educate colleagues, ensure adherence, and provide feedback to REI’s corporate partners.
  • Manage the Quarterly Process Enhancements & Controls and Risk Incident reporting processes, assist the REI Senior Leadership team to complete an annual Operational Risk Assessment, as well as other risk management-related initiatives,
  • Address REI’s Business Resilience needs by maintaining its Recovery Plan, directing REI’s participation in recovery exercises, and facilitating Inherent Risk and Business Impact Assessments, and
  • Oversee REI’s records management initiatives.
  • Coordinate REI’s Human Resources & Operational activities.
  • Manage REI employee on/off boarding and internal move processes with HR, REI business area managers and affected employees,
  • Direct REI’s Mentorship Program and serve on various REI Committees, such as Talent Management and Diversity & Inclusion,
  • Oversee access to REI systems, applications and shared network drives based on an understanding of roles, responsibilities, and delegations of authority to ensure compliance with Corporate Audit and Security requirements,
  • Coordinate REI’s internal and external communications functions, such as overseeing REI’s transactional press release process, responding to ad hoc communications related requests, and managing content on REI’s intranet space,

 

Skills / Requirements

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and effectively respond to changes in workflow, priorities and workload, as well as demonstrated skill in handling a diverse range of assignments.
  • Proficient project manager and creative problem solver.
  • Able to work autonomously, as well as with diverse groups of people, respond to challenges and manage time effectively in order to meet deadlines.
  • Team player who is versatile, organized, efficient, proactive, conscientious and assumes accountability and responsibility for specific performance and work product.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong technical skills, including proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), and aptitude to learn new systems/applications.
