The Dermot Company, a New York City based real estate developer and operator, is seeking a full-time Tax Manager to ensure that our tax planning and reporting practices comply with local, state and federal regulations.

ABOUT THIS ROLE

 

Some of the things you ll be working on include:

 

  • Ensuring the preparation and timely filing of all tax returns for an evolving and complex portfolio - partnerships, simple corporations and REITs.
  • Maintaining accurate fixed asset schedules for tax purposes.
  • Making annual tax projections, tax capital gain calculation and leading in the tax planning process.
  • Assisting in non-income tax areas such as real estate tax appeals, personal property taxes, and other related tax matters.
  • Analyzing tax expenses, identifying and mitigating risks and highlighting opportunities and efficiencies within the tax structure.
  • Serving as a trusted in-house resource on technical tax matters.
  • Researching various tax issues and working with the IRS or state and local tax authorities as needed.
  • Keeping current with applicable tax law changes.
  • Working with outside consultants and lawyers to recommend overall tax strategies and providing guidance on compliance.

 

ABOUT YOU AND WHAT YOU OFFER

 

  • CPA license.
  • 4-6 years of professional experience in a broad range of real estate tax including acquisition/disposition planning and structuring, partnership taxation, and REITs (exposure to REIT testing, compliance, and planning is a plus!).
  • Familiarity with built-in gain/loss, 743(b) adjustments, and waterfall gain calculations.
  • Knowledge of New York State and New York City partnership and corporation taxes.
  • Individual tax experience is a plus.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in tax law, compliance methods and tax planning.
  • Strong adaptability skills due to evolving portfolio and real estate tax trends.
  • Strong researching capabilities and problem-solving skills.
  • Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint proficiency.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, presentation and organization skills.
  • A strong work ethic and commitment to meet deadlines.
  • Authorized to work for any employer in the United States without any restrictions whatsoever.

Our compensation and benefits package include a competitive salary, commensurate with experience with mid-year and year-end bonus potential, comprehensive benefits including medical, dental and vision, paid time off and retirement with match when eligible and a flexible hybrid environment. This role requires a minimum of three days in our Manhattan office. The annualized gross base range for this position is $140,000-150,000. The actual compensation within the range will be based on factors unique to each candidate including years and depth of experience.
