The Commercial Loan Underwriter will have the responsibility for ensuring the credit worthiness of on both performing and non-performing commercial loans owned by internal and external investors. This position will be an integral part of the Commercial Credit / Underwriting team reporting to the First Vice President of Commercial Credit but will have broader interactions with the SVP of Commercial Servicing & Asset Management, as well as executive leadership on the Commercial Loan Origination teams. An ideal candidate should be a self-starter that can operate with limited supervision in a fast-paced environment, deadline-oriented environment. (REMOTE is acceptable). The salary range for this role is $70k to $75k; however, Bayview considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate s work experience, education/training, location and key skills. We also provide full benefits, Healthcare coverage (starts immediately once hired), 3 weeks accrued vacation per year, holidays, sick days and a 401k.


  • Perform financial statement underwriting, analysis and financial covenant compliance for a portfolio of performing and non-performing commercial loans owned by internal and external clients in accordance to Loan Agreements.
  • Monitor the credit quality of commercial loan portfolio on monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
  • Recommend risk ratings in accordance with NAIC and/or CREFC guidelines.
  • Identify the key credit and non-credit risks associated with a portfolio of loans or specific to a transaction.
  • Review and recommend any additions or changes to the current policies and procedures for underwriting performing and non-performing commercial loans and guarantors.
  • Develop and recommend to Senior Management any adjustments to Commercial Credit key performance indicators, processes and policies.
  • Review and make approval recommendations on financial analysis in connection with loan modifications, maturity extensions, workouts or annual reviews prior to formal submission to Senior Management, Investors, or Clients.
  • Underwrite high risk/profile assets as requested by Senior Management.
  • Perform due diligence on potential commercial loan acquisition portfolios for indicative or final bid purposes as necessary.

  • Working knowledge of cash flow, credit and collateral evaluation emphasis on CRE property types (multifamily, office, hotel, retail, self-storage and others)
  • Working knowledge of financial statement analysis and review of tax returns.
  • Strong knowledge of credit policies, procedures, principles and philosophy
  • 3+ years experience in one or a combination of the following related to commercial loans and/or commercial real estate: underwriting, financial analysis or deal structuring in financial services, private banking, corporate/investment banking or capital markets
  • Formal credit or commercial loan training and some previous credit decisioning preferred
  • Exposure to a wide variety of commercial credits and the professional/executive market segment is preferred
  • Knowledge of financial accounting theory and logic, loan structuring, commercial products and services
  • Solid credit fundamentals in a commercial environment
