Scope:

BDT & MSD  is seeking an experienced asset manager to join its real estate credit team.  This team oversees the origination of senior secured loans, mezzanine loans and structured equity investments across all asset classes and geographies.  The asset manager will work as a fully integrated member of the real estate credit team to drive and maximize the performance of the team’s portfolio, including overseeing third party consultants, monthly draws, execution of underlying property-level business plans and capital transactions (e.g., dispositions and refinancings); liaising with the internal accounting team and borrower parties; and analyzing asset performance and/or construction progress, as applicable.  The asset manager will have significant opportunities for personal growth on both the asset management and investment sides of the business, and to be impactful to a small, highly entrepreneurial team that manages a large existing portfolio and continues to deploy significant capital.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform various portfolio management responsibilities, including management and ownership of portfolio-wide data and analytics and internal reporting requirements (e.g., quarterly portfolio reviews)
  • Track and monitor construction progress and underlying asset performance across the portfolio, including creating and updating investment models, valuation memos, budgets, draw schedules, etc.
  • Work with borrowers, consultants, the accounting team and counsel to execute capital draws across the portfolio
  • Conduct on-site property visits and maintain market and/or sector coverage with travel required, as needed
  • Assist in approving, structuring, negotiating and documenting leases and/or unit sales, as applicable
  • Participate in the diligence and closing process of new originations
  • Develop internal and external presentation material and investment committee memoranda, as needed
  • Support our internal marketing team and manage investor reporting requirements for the various funds under management

 

Qualifications:

  • Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from a top undergraduate institution
  • 5+ years of experience in real estate asset management, acquisitions and/or development.

  • Ability to meaningfully contribute to strategic dialogue and collaborate effectively with investment teams and external partners
  • Highly organized and demonstrates strong investment judgment by ability to identify potential risks and find solutions to roadblocks throughout all stages of a transaction

  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with various internal and external parties
