THE COMPANY:
Real Equity Management is a privately owned, design-build and full-service property management firm. REM's asset portfolio is centered around both commercial and residential real estate. Their primary focus, however, is in market-rate and student, apartment communities. REM currently oversees properties in Missouri, Oklahoma, and Kentucky.
ACCOUNTING CONTROLLER POSITION:
REM is looking to hire an Accounting Controller to oversee Accounting Operations for our Real Estate Property Management branch of our business.
ACCOUNTING CONTROLLER RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee the accounting function for over 50 real estate companies and several non-real estate companies, including those in the food and beverage, farming, and transportation industry
- Provide department leadership and supervise accounting and payroll functions
- Oversee the accounting team's work for accuracy and completeness, and ensure smooth operation of team's responsibilities
- Oversee controls designed to mitigate risk, ensure the accuracy of financial reporting and adherence to generally accepted accounting principles and standards
- Prepare accurate financial statements for general manager, owners, joint venture partners and lenders on a monthly, quarterly and yearly basis for all entities
- Compile and analyze financial information for business leadership
- Provide cash management oversight
- Participate in new investments and financing as needed
- Serve as a liaison between creditors and financing
- Develop budgets, forecasts, and projections for entities and specific projects as needed
- Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
- Assist third-party CPA firm in their preparation of all income tax returns
ACCOUNTING CONTROLLER REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field, required
- CPA, preferred
- A minimum of 7+ years of accounting experience within an upper management role
- Previous successful management of an accounting department
- Ability to work with a variety of customers, including property operations, creditors, and business leadership
- Strong analytical skills
- Ability to anticipate issues and communicate to management and ownership
- A high degree of proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft office applications
