School/Center Overview

The Division of Facilities and Real Estate Services (FRES) provides the expertise, business process, policies and standards required to plan, design, construct, operate, maintain and renew the physical assets of the University, excluding the health system. In addition, the Division, comprised of approximately five Departments, is responsible for the strategic planning, management and operation of non-academic University property, and collaborating with the neighborhood to create a safe, diverse and economically vibrant destination. With close to 12M square feet of space, FRES maintains 186 buildings on a campus of 276 acres, completes over 60,000 maintenance requests per year, and starts approximately 250 projects a year. FRES is comprised of the following Departments: Administration, Office of the University Architect, Design and Construction, Real Estate, Operations and Maintenance.

 

The University of Pennsylvania is implementing a campus transformation entitled Penn Connects (). This comprehensive, award winning effort is expanding the campus over the next 20 years, including the construction of new academic research and recreational facilities. In addition, the University has secured $300M in Century Bond funding and continues to upgrade existing facilities over the coming years.

 

Duties

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Senior Controls Engineer is responsible for all aspects of the campus wide controls systems designs, programming, simulation / testing and start-up assistance. S/he will review and comment on control system design construction documents. This person must have proven experience in PLC logic and Building Management Systems programming. This person shall be responsible overseeing HMI or SCADA programming with Iconics software packages. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in engineering leadership as well as develop and implement standard Engineering practices. S/he will be responsible for managing the execution of tasks related to the implementation of a cyber security plan, including the development of policies and procedures and ongoing monitoring of security compliance. S/he will be expected to work collaboratively with numerous internal and external parties to facilitate progress toward meeting the energy reduction, carbon footprint, and overall sustainability goals as specified in the University s Climate action plan.

 

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s Degree is required and 5 years to 7 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelors in Electrical, Mechanical or Computer Engineering are desired and or equivalent experience. Experience in, university and or semiconductor industries is a plus. Senior Controls Engineer should have excellent problem solving skills, good communication skills and excellent project management skills. It is essential that the candidate is very familiar with current Cyber Security methodology and best practices, including NIST standards. Proven record of strong interpersonal customer service skills is required. Demonstrated experience in PLC logic and Building Management Systems programming utilized in industry-standard building systems.

 

Knowledge of computer software is also essential. Demonstrated ability to exhibit good judgment and be able to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced, diverse environment.
