California Bank & Trust is hiring for a Real Estate Analyst position located in the San Francisco Bay area.  The ideal candidate for this position will have the skills and experience necessary to fulfill the following job responsibilities:

 

Seeking a self-starting, motivated, outgoing, Real Estate Analyst with a positive attitude who is coachable, able to manage/complete projects independently and within a team environment, and has a strong desire for career development into a Jr Production/Account Manager roll. Candidate must be organized with an ability to multitask across job tasks and willing to perform tasks from administrative processing to evaluating lending transactions successfully.

 

The position provides an excellent opportunity to work in a high profile, dynamic and creative environment that will enable the candidate to gain broad exposure to Commercial Real Estate structured finance with regional and institutional clients.

 

The right individual should have a solid foundation in real estate financial analysis, proficiency in Excel and Argus cash flow modeling, as well as solid critical thinking and communications skills to be successful. Commercial mortgage lending and finance background including experience in underwriting senior construction and floating rate bridge loans on both stabilized and transitional/value-add assets.

 

Primary responsibilities of the position will be to perform underwriting analysis on new financing opportunities, portfolio management, and reporting. This includes preliminary underwriting to include analyzing a range of assumptions in financial models, completing credit submission packages for approval, and producing a variety of monthly, quarterly and annual reports. The candidate will also interface with senior management, mortgage brokers, as well as existing and prospective customers.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Underwriting for construction and value-add commercial debt financing transactions backed by single family homes, multi-family, office, industrial, and retail properties.

  • Underwriting due diligence to include analysis of cash flow, rent rolls, lease abstracts, operating history, valuation reviews, and market statistics on a micro and macro level.

  • Coordinate with other functional units within the Company in preparation for loan closings.

  • Monitor portfolio performance, preparing and analyzing financial projections, and updating internal reporting for existing loans within the real estate portfolio making timely and well-developed recommendations in line with Company policy.

  • Ad Hoc Reporting and financial support as needed.

  • Maintain strong market presence, attend networking and market functions. Develop and expand existing external broker & other relationships to acquire sources of market and economic data on the real estate fundamentals in West Coast markets.

  • Ability to travel by car within the SF Bay Area with limited travel outside the Bay Area may be required.

  • Other duties and special projects as assigned. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor degree in Finance, Economics, Real Estate or equivalent.
  • 6+ years of relevant work experience in commercial real estate.
  • The candidate should have strong quantitative and analytical skills, excellent oral and written communication abilities, and effective writing skills with ability to synthesize information.
  • Other essential capabilities include commitment to meet deadlines, integrity, and strong work ethic while working independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Has aptitude to quickly and efficiently learn new software, processes, databases, and adapt to corporate culture.
  • Dedicated team player who is flexible and adaptable to change in a fast-paced environment.
  • Well organized with ability to excel under pressure balancing multiple transactions and diverse priorities, delivering quality product.
  • Ability to think strategically and possess sound problem solving ability.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, with emphasis on Excel and Word.
  • Argus cash flow modeling experience required.
