Description Summary
The Purchasing Agent is accountable for negotiating best prices and purchasing materials and supplies from vendors. Responsible to assist Estimators and Project Managers on purchasing issues and serve as a liaison between field and other personnel and suppliers. Will work with the project team to create the bill of materials and track materials through the job life cycle as well as work in concert to develop and process job material submittals.
Purchasing
Accountable to identify vendors and suppliers for construction materials and services. Negotiates best vendor and supplier terms, monitor materials and services pricing and delivery based on specific budget and schedule requirements. Researches invoices (of all types) that are missing proper backup documentation. Take advantage of bulk purchasing opportunities. Follow-up with vendors to ensure timely order fulfillment, verify delivery to correct locations, accurate quantity, and specifications. Responsible to assist the estimators and project team with the pricing of construction materials, supplies, and services as requested.
Tracking
Responsible to coordinate or advise regarding the purchase and job site delivery of construction supplies and materials. Maintain an organized and timely system of purchasing activity in order to provide the project team with critical information regarding status of purchasing requests. Monitor and analyze vendor/ supplier pricing to assure best possible savings.
Education and Experience:
- Associates degree or Equivalent work experience
- 1-3 years of experience in Purchasing (required)
- Experience with Microsoft Excel and Word
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Highly organized, with focus on process and time management discipline
- Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong customer service skills

- Familiarity with commonly used commercial construction concepts, practices, and procedures
