Analyst / Associate, Commercial Real Estate, Benefit Street Partners

Benefit Street Partners is a growing affiliate of Franklin Templeton, a leading global asset management firm with over $700 billion AUM and a broad range of investment strategies.  BSP was founded in 2008 and currently manages over $26 billion AUM, which is invested across the global credit spectrum.  In 2013, BSP expanded into commercial real estate and makes real estate loans and investments via Benefit Street Partners Realty Trust, Inc, a public-reporting privately held mortgage REIT.  The REIT’s primary focus is originating commercial real estate debt including bridge financing, permanent financing, and mezzanine financing.  The real estate team is headquartered in New York, NY.    

Position Overview
The Analyst / Associate role reports directly to the regional Managing Director in the San Francisco office. The candidate will assist with varying responsibilities on the debt origination and loan underwriting process including loan “sizing”, underwriting, property market analytics, among other responsibilities.  The ideal candidate will have 1 – 2 years of relevant work experience in commercial real estate.    

Responsibilities
Sizing, review, and analysis of new deals on behalf of loan originators
  • Management of originator’s deals in the firm’s deal pipeline system
  • Interface with clients, the underwriting team, legal counsel, accountants and investors in order to manage the loan closing process
  • Collaborate with senior underwriters to create asset summary reports which include detailed cash flow analysis, market research, loan structure, sponsor due diligence, and a review of third party reports

Qualifications
The successful candidate will be a professional who possesses:  
  • 1-3 years of experience in commercial real estate
  • Bachelor's degree or higher, ideally in a finance-related field of study such as Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Engineering or Mathematics.
  • Firm understanding of the principles of finance, business operations, and mathematical and/or statistical modeling.
  • Strong user of widely used technical tools such as Excel.
  • Creative problem solver with ability to perform well under pressure.
  • Clear, logical thinker with strong quantitative abilities.
  • Detail oriented, with a highly disciplined approach to process and quality control.
  • Ability to learn quickly, multi-task and self-manage priorities.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Strong team player.
