The Professionals’ Choice for Real Estate Jobs

Hear Here Google

Every once in a while instead of doing something just because we CAN, humankind stops and thinks “whether we SHOULD.” I remember feeling safer watching John F. Kennedy sign the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty after years of practicing hiding under my school desk in case of nuclear attack. I had the same feeling about our personal privacy this week when Fortune reported that the Google Here initiative had been scrapped. Google Here was designed to work within Google Maps, to send paid messages based on your smartphone’s location. Google realized, “Google Here” was potentially too invasive and the company wasn’t sure if many retailers would want it.” Apple has a program called iBeacon and, in partnership with Target stores, will deliver ads and related marketing messages directly to Apple iPhone users within the confines of the store, based in part on their exact aisle location. If I am shopping, I see the benefit of receiving information on products and services, but not when I am driving, at a funeral and … thankfully Google gets the difference.
