One in 20 students now enrolled at American universities is from outside the U.S., according to the WSJ. The 10% jump in international students, the fastest growth rate since 1979, sets a record for foreign students at U.S. Colleges. Why? In California, students from abroad pay nearly three times the rate of state residents. Taxpayer subsidies at public universities are decreasing, so after their families paid state taxes all of their lives, UC accepted only 62% of in-state applicants in 2014 compared to 84% in 2010. Today at nearly every University, the slot increasingly goes to those who leave the U.S. rather than those who stay and benefit America. Mark the words of Thomas Jefferson, “An educated citizenry is a vital requisite for our survival as a free people.”
