Metropolitan Commercial Bank’s CRE Lending Group is seeking a Loan Closing Specialist to assist in the management of a growing $1.5B commercial real estate loan portfolio. This role will report to the bank’s Head of CRE and will materially contribute to the continued high growth and oversight of the commercial real estate portfolio. The Loan Closing Specialist will assist with the loan closing process and management of the Commercial Real Estate Portfolio. The loan portfolio consists of various types of commercial loans, including but not limited to lines of credit, term notes, and permanent loans. The portfolio is comprised of a variety of asset classes, including multifamily, retail, mixed-use, office, land and hotel.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and FUNCTIONS
Coordinate with the Borrower to obtain and track due diligence and underwriting items necessary for approval;
Prepare closing schedules for Operations and Accounting for planning purposes;
In conjunction with the Loan Servicing Department processes complex payments and advances, participations and lines of credit including paperwork to get loans booked on the system. Provide proper documentation for loan files to be set up after closings in conjunction with Credit Administration; Coordinate with the Loan Servicing department to provide payoff letters and coordinate necessary legal documentation for payoff with the attorney and Credit Administration;
Engage in daily dialogue with Commercial Lenders (CLs) and Portfolio Managers (PMs) regarding portfolio management and property related concerns;
Develop a quarterly action plan, in advance, for loans coming up for maturity and/or renewal by maintaining ongoing communication with PMs and CLs;
Prepare approval Memos with respect to maturity extensions, modifications of existing loan terms and covenant waivers;
Work with the Loan Servicing Department and the Borrower’s representative to facilitate construction loan draws, confirming loan covenants are met, reviewing budget when necessary to confirm “in-balance” funding, and request title contingency, and prepare memo to Loan Servicing Department for funding;
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to write clear and concise credit related Memos. Ability to analyze financial statements, rent rolls and financial projections. Proficiency in excel.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES (Required for this job.):
5-8 years of relevant experience
Bachelor’s degree with concentration in finance, economics, real estate, accounting or related subjects. Post graduate education or relevant experience as a lender, appraiser, underwriter, equity analyst (1 – 3 years) a plus;
Strong analytical and computer skills with a thorough knowledge of Excel including the ability to perform cash flow analyses and create financial models. Working knowledge of Argus a plus
Basic knowledge of commercial real estate and lending fundamentals;
Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills;
Desire to work at a high level, learn, take ownership of assigned tasks, and work extended hours as necessary; and
Ability to undertake detailed oriented analyses to make well-reasoned, decisive recommendations.
